Urgent Issue
Nowadays issuing banks have tougher requirements to cash. It must be durable, secure, attractive, and inexpensive in production. Most circulating notes are printed on the paper substrate, yet there're alternative solutions with their niches in the global currency market. We've interviewed Andrea Nitsche, Marketing Director at Giesecke & Devrient (Germany), for a detailed description of the Hybrid substrate by Louisenthal (a D&G subsidiary), its capability, advantages, and prospects.

In mid-July, Currency Research presented a summary report by Rick Haycock, 'The Case for Cash. Part One: Myths', on widespread misconceptions about the cash industry and the social role of central banks. The authors wamted their study to tell the truth about all things cash. It examines some of the most prevalent myths surrounding the cash world, as well as the role of the central bank in society, in order to dispell the misinformation that has arisen around the product. Historically, central banks have not promoted particular payment methods and do not challenge articles/reports about cash. As such, Currency Research chose to identify and challenge these myths to ensure central banks and governments have a foundation of sound research and public policy on which to base their payment strategies.
