Australia's police is warning its citizens of a rise in fake note circulation. According to Daily Mail Australia, this August the number of AUD fakes in New South Wales almost doubled. In July, 41 fake notes were seized, followed by as many as 81 fakes in August.

As reported by the police, they're detecting various denomination simulations - mostly AUD 50/100. Some of the fakes are quite easy to spot as printed on paper, while genuine notes feature the polymer substrate. Paper fakes are easily torn unlike almost untearable genuine notes.

The plastic fakes' substrate, as a rule, is a little thinner than the genuine one and has unlegible images. Counterfeiters can rarely simulate transparent windows well either - one of the most important AUD security features. This feature is often simulated by sticking a special coating over the substrate.

The most widespread fakes have the following serial numbers: AUD 50 - DL0919338; AUD 100 - A96403514.
